China’s leading technology companies are relocating parts of their artificial-intelligence development to Southeast Asia in an effort to secure high-end Nvidia processors restricted under U.S. export rules, according to the Financial Times.
The FT reports that Alibaba and ByteDance have begun building up overseas operations where they can train advanced models using hardware no longer available to them in mainland China.
By shifting key projects offshore, the companies are seeking to preserve their competitiveness in generative AI despite tightening Washington controls.
