OpenAI is building its own software collaboration and repository service designed to compete with Microsoft-owned GitHub, according to a report by The Information.
The move follows a series of outages that left GitHub inaccessible to OpenAI’s engineers in recent months, disrupting internal workflows and prompting the company to explore alternatives, the publication said.
The initiative remains in the early phases of development and is not expected to launch anytime soon. Staff involved in the effort have discussed the possibility of eventually offering the platform commercially to OpenAI’s enterprise customers, the report added.
